Transitional Kit House

This proposal for CETA Ltd is for an ecological family dwelling for areas of conflict or disaster is based on a timber frame superstructure built with local labour. The frame is capped at roof level with a reciprocal plywood beam structure (beams rest on/are mechanically fixed to each other). These would be fabricated on site and allow free order in the space below.

The dwelling is designed to evolve according to the availability of resources and materials: Typical specification:
Stage 1
- Frame /roof erected (metal sheeting) & membrane installed - dwelling occupied; Stage 2- Internal ply. lining/acrylic windows fixed to studs over membrane, floor slab/raised floor;
Stage 3- External wall make-up: gabions filled with rubble (or concrete panels) /insulation; Stage4- Outbuildings/extensions/customisation.

The centre of the roof is clad in photo voltaic panels to generate electricity for lighting purposes; solar panels could provide hot water.

The dwelling would be heated by a stove. Water would be made available to the dwelling by the most appropriate manner at each location.

This project was carried out in collaboration with artist Barbara Beyer
