Overview:

An undulating beachscape extends towards Marine Road Central creating and engaging development baulks in the landscape. The masterplan provides views and circulation through to and through the site. The layout offers good protection from the prevailing winds whilst creating community spaces of different qualities, texture and scale at each end of the scheme. A gentle arc emanating from the Midland Hotel creates a new speciality shopping arcade under a landscape canopy, itself a stretched Hotel balcony form embracing the development from the new Community Plaza round to the promenade. Important long views to the Hotel are maintained and enhanced. The Prow an events venue replaces the Dome and is sprung from the bearing of the old lido terrace to minimise disruption to the beachscape. The space is accessed via the promenade and an optional low-level link between it and the winter garden, past the beach theatre. A new community park sits atop the building.
