Future Choices
An
Edinburgh Vision initiative
by invitation to provide a platform for exploring the urban regeneration
of a dormant site within the eastern fringe of the New Town. Our proposal
looked at the positive effect that re-opening a branch line from Waverley
Station (used by the City only for shunting rubbish) would have relative
to the quality of operations that might be attracted
to the site. The scheme has a new civic space at its heart with an
exhibition centre and the National Gallery of Scottish Art flanking
each side. A tram loop is taken off that proposed to run east- west
through the City cutting through the piazza. New community housing
with vast communal gardens-on the scale of Regent Gardens - is provided
to the north with the Eurofed central clearing bank the other main
ingredient amongst the mix of related uses required for a synergetic
project.
